Adult foster care facilities, county infirmaries, and child-care organizations are regulated by the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industrial Services (CIS), formerly known as the Family Independence Agency of the Michigan Department of Social Services. The responsibility of the Environmental Health Division is to assist these facilities with meeting state guidelines for proper sanitation. General inspections of these facilities typically include compliance with private water and sewage disposal systems and food sanitation by health safety standards.
